Eyes To See, Ears To Hear
He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marvelled because of their unbelief.
— Mark 6:5-6
Have you ever wondered why some prayers for healing seem to go unanswered? It's a tough question that can leave us feeling puzzled and, sometimes, even a bit let down. But what if the key to unlocking this mystery lies within our own hearts and minds?
Consider the story in the Bible where Jesus enters His hometown, ready to perform miracles. But there’s a twist—He could hardly do any mighty works there! Now, ask yourself, was it because Jesus lacked power? Surely not. The scripture gives us a hint: "And He marvelled because of their unbelief." (Mark 6:5-6). It’s like Jesus is saying, “Guys, your faith matters. It’s the fuel for miracles!”
So, why did the disciples fail to heal the boy brought to them? Jesus nailed it with one word: "unbelief" (Matthew 17:20). Imagine that—having the power to heal but being blocked by a lack of faith. Ever been there? Trying to move mountains but feeling like you’re pushing against a brick wall? Jesus’ answer is crystal clear: faith is not just a nice-to-have; it's essential. And how do we get it? "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17).
Let's get real for a second. Are you listening for God’s voice in your life? Because faith isn't a magic trick; it's a response to what we hear from God. Sometimes, we might feel like we're doing everything right—we’re praying, we’re asking others to pray, but if we're not tuned in to God’s frequency, we might miss the call.
And this is crucial: it's not just about hearing; it's about understanding and turning our hearts towards Him (Matthew 13:15). It’s about having ears that really hear and eyes that truly see the vision of healing God has for us. It’s not the prayers of many that count but the faith of the few—or even the one—who truly believes. So, let’s be those who stand in faith, who listen for His voice, and who dare to believe that with God, all things—including healing—are possible. (Mark 9:23). Are you ready to listen and believe?
