Premasis Satman’s Experience at Movement Day Scholars & Singapore’s Christian Landmarks

Premasis Satman, an emerging leader in urban gospel movements, recently attended the Movement Day Scholars Level 1 Cohort in Singapore. The program, part of a three-year initiative, equips leaders with practical tools to accelerate city-wide gospel movements through collaboration among churches, civic groups, and marketplace leaders. With Singapore serving as a key hub for Christian leadership training, this gathering brought together scholars from across Asia and beyond to engage in strategic learning, discussions, and fellowship.

Visit to Church of Our Saviour (COOS)
During his time in Singapore, Premasis visited the Church of Our Saviour (COOS), a historic Anglican church with deep roots in the city. COOS was founded in 1956 and experienced a major spiritual revival under Rev. Derek Hong, which led to the church relocating to Margaret Drive to accommodate its growing congregation. Known for its charismatic worship style and strong community outreach, COOS has played a vital role in nurturing faith among diverse groups of believers.

One of the most remarkable exhibits at COOS is the Widow’s Mite Display, featuring two ancient “leptons” (λεπτόν), the smallest coins used in Judea during Jesus’ time. These coins, mentioned in Mark 12:42-44, highlight sacrificial giving and faith, as Jesus praised a poor widow for giving her last two mites to the temple treasury. The coins bear an inverted anchor on one side and a Messianic Star on the other, symbolizing faith and hope despite material limitations.

Another unique feature of COOS is its wall of handcrafted tiles, which narrates the church’s journey since 1956. The wall consists of 428 individually designed tiles, created by church members, each representing a milestone in the church’s history. The perspective lines on the wall lead to an unfinished upper section, symbolizing the ongoing mission of the church and inviting future generations to continue writing its story under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Visit to New Creation Church
Another important stop on Premasis’ journey was New Creation Church, a non-denominational Charismatic megachurch in Singapore, founded in 1984. Under the leadership of Senior Pastor Joseph Prince, the church has grown into one of the largest congregations in the region.
New Creation Church holds its services at The Star Performing Arts Centre, a state-of-the-art worship venue with a 5,000-seat auditorium in the one-north business district. The church emphasizes grace-based teaching and has had a significant influence on Christian communities worldwide. In 2019, Rock Productions, the church’s business arm, acquired The Star Vista Mall for S$296 million to ensure that its worship space remains aligned with its vision and mission.

Meeting with Pastor Danny Modi – Bartley Christian Church
During his visit, Premasis also met with Pastor Danny Modi, the Lead Pastor of the Telugu Congregation at Bartley Christian Church. Originally from India, Ps. Danny pioneered a transgender ministry, pastored a church, and worked among ragpickers before moving to Singapore 12 years ago with his family.
At Bartley Christian Church, Ps. Danny shepherds the Telugu-speaking congregation, providing pastoral care and spiritual guidance to the Indian Christian community in Singapore. His wife, Pastor Lalitha, is also actively involved in the ministry, and together they serve with compassion and dedication, ensuring that Telugu-speaking believers in Singapore have a strong spiritual home.

Church of the Good Shepherd (COGS)
The Church of the Good Shepherd (COGS), established in 1959, is Queenstown’s first Anglican church and has been a vital part of the community ever since. Originally serving Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking worshippers, it later expanded to include English services and has played a key role in local church planting efforts.
The Reverend Dr. Jonathan Wong is the Priest-in-Charge of the English-speaking congregation at COGS. With a passion for sharing God’s undeserved love, he has been in ordained ministry since 1998, actively involved in youth work and church planting both locally and internationally. He is dedicated to training and mentoring young leaders for gospel-centered church ministry.

Through the Movement Day Scholars Program and visits to these influential churches, Premasis gained valuable insights into Singapore’s rich Christian heritage and its dynamic faith communities. The journey reinforced his commitment to strengthening gospel movements, fostering collaboration, and applying lessons learned to his own ministry.
As he continues his leadership development, these experiences will serve as a foundation for inspiring and equipping believers to bring spiritual transformation to their cities.
