In 2017, I knew about baptism but had kept putting it off. I had heard so many different opinions that I convinced myself I needed to understand everything first. My plan was simple: finish school, sort out my questions, then get baptized. There was no hurry, I told myself.
Then one Sunday, Pastor Premasis preached on baptism.
He made one thing plain from the Bible: baptism is not something you postpone until life is tidier or your questions run out. It is an act of faith and obedience. He walked through the story of the Ethiopian eunuch, who heard the good news about Jesus and, the moment he spotted water along the road, asked without hesitation, "Look, here is water.
What prevents me from being baptized?" No delay. No waiting for a better moment. He simply responded.
Sitting there, I recognized what I had been doing. It was not really about school or unresolved questions. It was fear. The Holy Spirit made that clear to me while Pastor Premasis was still speaking. I made up my mind before the sermon ended.
I am glad I did not wait. Getting baptized that year was one of the most honest things I have ever done before God.
The questions did not all disappear, but the confusion did, and something settled in me that has stayed.
I am grateful for that Sunday in 2017. One message was enough.
