Walking On The Street Of Gold

Walking through the bustling streets of Gold Souk in Dubai, I couldn't help but be reminded of the verse in Revelation that speaks of heaven's streets of gold. In Revelation 21:21, it is written that the great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass. But why does the Bible mention streets of gold in heaven, and what significance does it hold?

As I pondered on this thought, I realized that the purity of the gold used for the streets of heaven is reflective of the purity that God desires for us, His children, to possess as citizens of heaven. We must strive to be pure and transparent, just as the gold that makes up the streets of heaven. But how can we attain such purity? The answer lies in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, through which we are gifted with righteousness that is as pure as Jesus' own righteousness.

It is important to note that the gold in its natural state is not pure, and requires refining to remove impurities. Similarly, as humans, we are not born pure, but our faith in Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in our lives helps us to become pure and righteous. 1 John 1:9 assures us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.

While the Bible speaks of literal streets of gold in heaven, it is not the physical gold that holds true value. Instead, it is the glory of God that will be the source of our eternal joy and satisfaction in heaven. Let us strive to live a life of purity and transparency, knowing that it is only through Jesus Christ that we can attain such righteousness and become citizens of heaven.
