Above And Beyond: Where's Your Focus

Hey there! Ever felt bogged down by negative vibes or thoughts? You're not alone. But here's a thought: what if I told you that, where you focus your thoughts can change everything? Stick with me for a moment.

Have you ever considered how Lazarus must've felt, coming out of the tomb, still wrapped in graveclothes? That's in John 11:44. It says, "And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go." Think about it. Even though Lazarus was alive, he still had to shed the graveclothes (i.e. habits, attitudes, etc.) that held him back to fully enjoy his new life. Sound familiar?

Ever felt like old habits and thoughts are holding you back? Why do some days feel heavy while others feel light and breezy? Here's the secret: it's all in your head. I know, right? But seriously, it's like this: if we keep thinking about the bad stuff, guess what? It's gonna feel heavy. But if we think about good things, things that uplift and inspire us, things change. Did you know that Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." That's the Bible's way of saying, "Hey, focus on the good vibes!"

So, the next time life feels like a ton of bricks, remember this: your focus determines your reality. You can choose to stay wrapped in those heavy thoughts or you can decide to shift your attention to what's good, what's true, and what's eternal. Why not look above and beyond what's in front of you? After all, if we set our minds on things above, not on earthly things (check out Colossians 3:2), we might just find a joy that's unshakeable, even when life gets a little rocky.
