God Sets The Table Before The Battle Ends

Everyone tells you it will be fine once this part is over. So you hold your breath and wait for the after.

Psalm 23:4 says, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Through. Not around it, and not lifted out before it got hard.

Then look at where the meal happens. Psalm 23:5 says, "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." In the presence of them. Not after they left the room.

That is a strange thing to picture. Sitting down to eat while the situation is still going on around you. But it is the same table Paul points back to in 1 Corinthians 10:21. Rest is not the prize for winning. It is handed to you in the middle.

Straight up, this changes what happens at eleven at night when the thing is still unresolved. You are not required to generate calm out of nowhere. The peace is already set out for you, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes it real in your body while nothing outside has changed yet.

And Psalm 23:6 says, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life." Follow, as in chase you down. Whatever is behind you right now, that is what is gaining.
