Overcoming Offences
For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.
—
Have you ever been offended? Has someone hurt you, betrayed you or disappointed you? It's easy to get offended and hold onto bitterness. However, the offended heart is an enemy of our future and our relationship with God. It destroys our peace, steals our joy, and hinders our spiritual growth.
The Bible warns us about the dangers of an offended heart. When we allow bitterness to take root in our hearts, we are not walking in the wisdom that comes from above. We become trapped in earthly, sensual, and demonic thinking. We become blind to the truth and open ourselves up to confusion and every evil thing.
As Christians, we are called to love one another and forgive those who have offended us. We are to pray for them and choose peace instead of bitterness. We are to meditate on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. (Phil. 4:6-8)
If you are struggling with an offended heart today, I encourage you to bring your hurts and pain to God. Ask Him to help you forgive those who have hurt you and to heal your heart. Remember that forgiveness is not a feeling but a choice. It's a decision to release the offender and trust God with the outcome.
Let us not allow offense and bitterness to rob us of the abundant life that Jesus died to give us. Let us choose love, choose peace, and choose to walk in the wisdom that comes from above.
PRAYER
Father, I release every offense and choose to walk in Your peace and wisdom. Heal my heart and teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me.
Amen
