Jesus' Body Broken For You

When mankind fell in the Garden of Eden, sin, sickness, poverty, and death entered our world. But God immediately had a plan to save us through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. Jesus spoke of this plan when He said, "My body broken for you."

Isaiah predicted Jesus’ physical sacrifice hundreds of years before He was born, as written in Isaiah 53:3-5.

For thousands of years, people have faced grief, rejection, poverty, fear, sickness, and death. But God’s perfect plan was for Jesus to take all these troubles on Himself.

The Bible says Jesus became sin for us on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21). We can't fully understand how terrible that was for Him. He lived a perfect life but took on sin so we could be free from it. When His body was broken for us, He became the perfect sacrifice.

John the Baptist called Jesus “The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Like a sacrificial lamb, Jesus shed His blood to cover the sins of everyone: past, present, and future. But if His blood paid for our sins, why was Jesus beaten?

In the Old Testament, sacrifices symbolized Jesus' ultimate sacrifice (Hebrews 10:12). Lambs were sacrificed humanely, but Jesus' sacrifice was not humane. He was stripped, beaten, whipped, and crowned with thorns before being nailed to a cross. His painful death was needed for God to finish His plan of complete redemption.
