Is Your Heart Hardern?

Have you ever found yourself wondering why the same sermon touches some hearts deeply while others leave unaffected? Jesus pointed out a critical reason: the condition of our hearts.

First, why is a hard heart a problem? A hard heart keeps us from perceiving spiritual truths. Jesus' disciples saw Him perform miracles, yet sometimes they struggled to grasp their significance. Mark 8:17 shows Jesus questioning their understanding, highlighting their hardened hearts. If our hearts are hard, we miss the deeper meaning of God’s word, just like they did.

Second, how does a hardened heart affect our understanding? When we don't truly understand God’s Word, it become easy prey for the enemy. Satan loves to snatch away unguarded seeds of truth. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts, for they are the wellspring of life. Without a soft, receptive heart, spiritual truths can't take root and grow.

Third, do you remember God’s miracles in your life? A hard heart makes it hard to recall spiritual lessons. The disciples remembered Jesus feeding thousands with a few loaves and fishes, but they missed the spiritual significance. How often do we recall God’s blessings but forget what He taught us through them? Reflect on Hebrews 3:12-13, which warns us against an evil, unbelieving heart leading us away from God.

So, how can we avoid a hard heart? It takes faith and seeking God with all our heart. Jeremiah 29:13 says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Today, let’s ask God to soften our hearts, making us receptive to His truth and love. Seek Him fully and let your heart be transformed.
