A Still Voice In A Roaring World
For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: 'In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.
— Isaiah 30:15
Have you ever asked yourself why it's so hard to hear God in our day and age? Why is faith a struggle despite having a church on every corner? It's an open secret that our generation faces unique challenges. We're constantly surrounded by a sea of information, all competing for our attention. News, entertainment, social media, reels, IG; it's like a never-ending carnival, right? Once we take our focus off of fellowship with God and get distracted with the "knowledge of good and evil", the enemy has won.
Do you need to know every detail about a celebrity's life? Do you need to follow every trending hashtag or watch every viral video? The more we allow these distractions, the less focus we have on God, and the more we lose out on experiencing His Peace. John 14:27 tells us, "Peace I leave with you; my Peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives." But are we ready to accept this Peace?
And what happens when we shift our focus from God's presence and the quiet, calm waters He provides? Do we have the right to claim that His promises "don't work"? Remember, His promises are a two-way street. We must make time for Him and quiet our hearts; only then can we truly experience His promises.
Now, don't get me wrong, there's nothing inherently evil about the world of entertainment and social media. However, our relationship with these things determines whether they enhance or hinder our faith. If we feel overwhelmed, it's essential to remember Isaiah 30:15, which says, "In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength."
Faith and Peace are still possible. They are there, ready to be embraced. But it requires us to know their Source intimately. Amid the chaos of our era, let's make an effort to tune out the world's noise and listen for that still, small voice that guides us towards a life of Peace and righteousness, as promised in Isaiah 32:17 - "The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness, and assurance forever." The question is, are you ready to listen?
PRAYER
Father, in this noisy world, help me return to You. Let me find rest in Your presence and strength in quiet confidence. I choose Your Peace over the world’s distractions. Tune my heart to hear Your still voice. Amen.
