Christ Has Become Our Righteousness

As believers in Christ, God has declared us righteous through faith in His Son. Our righteousness is not our own but Christ's, imputed to us by God based on our faith.

The apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 1:30, "[Christ] became for us wisdom from God – and righteousness and sanctification and redemption." Christ is the source of our salvation and the means by which we are made righteous before God.

We do not earn or achieve this righteousness through our efforts or performances. Instead, it is a gift God freely gives us through faith in His Son. As Paul writes in Romans 3:22, "the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all, who believe."

Because of Christ's righteousness, we have been saved from the judgment of our sins. When we confess our sins and repent, the record of our sins is erased, and we are cleansed from all unrighteousness. This means there is no possibility of final condemnation for the true believer in Christ based on sin.

However, while our righteousness is secure in Christ, we will still be judged for our service rendered to Him. The purpose of this judgment is not to decide upon either acquittal or condemnation but rather to assess the reward due to each believer for their service to Christ while on earth.

As we live out our faith in Christ, we should strive to serve Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. We should do so not to earn our righteousness or our salvation but as a response to the grace and love that God has shown us in Christ.
