Turning Sorrows Into Joy
I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee.
— Luke 15:18
Do you ever find yourself weighed down by guilt or regret? Maybe you’ve made mistakes that you think are too big to forgive. But here’s the truth: repentance is the key to turning things around. What does true repentance look like? It’s not about trying to justify our actions or pretending we’re better than we are. Instead, it’s about humbling ourselves before God, admitting our wrongs, and asking for His mercy.
The Bible tells us about the prodigal son who, after wasting his inheritance, came to his senses and said, “I will arise and go to my father” (Luke 15:18). He didn’t make excuses; he simply acknowledged his sins and sought forgiveness. That’s the essence of repentance—turning away from our sins and towards God.
Have you ever wondered why you still feel burdened even after feeling sorry for something? True repentance isn’t just about feeling sorry; it’s about changing your mind and actions. The Apostle Paul reminds us, “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death” (2 Corinthians 7:10).
Why do we sometimes feel overwhelmed by negative emotions? Our culture often tells us to avoid them, but these feelings can have a purpose. They should lead us to God, to repentance. When we bring our sorrows to Him, He doesn’t just leave us in our sadness. Instead, He transforms it. “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering” (Isaiah 53:4). Through Jesus, our negatives become positives. So, are you ready to turn your sorrows into joy? It starts with repentance.
