Walking In Love And Restoring Relationships
For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
— James 3:16
Now that we understand the destructive nature of envy and strife, how do we deal with them in our relationships? First, we need to evaluate the source of the strife. It can be our fault, the other person's fault, or a combination of both. Taking personal responsibility is essential to avoid developing a victim mentality. It's easy to point fingers, but true transformation begins when we look at ourselves first.
Often, the problems we perceive in relationships result from our judgmentsand assumptions. We jump to conclusions, take offense based on speculations, and judge the motives behind the actions of others. We can prevent many offenses from developing by assuming people have good motives. Speculative imaginations and assuming the worst about others only lead to unnecessary strife.
When resolving conflicts and restoring broken relationships, forgiveness plays a vital role. Jesus taught us the importance of forgiveness, not just seven times but seventy times seven. (Matt. 18:21-22) It is not only the numerical aspect that makes forgiveness a way of life, but also its power to end strife and pave the way for restoration.
Nevertheless, if forgiveness alone proves insufficient to resolve the matter, God's Word offers additional guidance. As outlined in Matthew 18:16, confronting the issue with the presence of two or three witnesses, involving the church, and even resorting to allowing someone to face the consequences of their actions for the sake of their spiritual redemption are steps that can be taken in extreme circumstances.
Sometimes, God may lead us to end certain relationships for our own well-being or to fulfill His purposes. He doesn't want us to be unequally yoked with unbelievers or to have relationships that hinder our destiny. However, it's important not to misuse this guidance as an excuse to end relationships simply because we're unhappy.
Remember, God's greatest commandments are to love Him with all our hearts and to love our neighbours as ourselves. Let's embrace the challenge of loving others as God loves us, allowing His love to flow through our interactions. Doing so can bring healing, harmony, and restoration to our relationships.
PRAYER
Father, I choose to walk in love and forgive freely as You have forgiven me. Help me to avoid judgment and strife by seeing others through Your grace. Let my relationships reflect Your heart of restoration.
Amen
