Journey Toward Life And Peace
... For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
— Romans 8:5-6
Did you know that you can know your future? Maybe not the specific events, but you can discern how you will live and the quality of life you will experience. Take a moment for a self-check and get a glimpse of what lies ahead in the coming weeks, months, and years.
The key to life and peace lies in being spiritually minded.* Contrarily, being carnally minded leads to death. What occupies your thoughts and captures your attention shapes your life's course. When we dwell on worldly concerns, allow doubt and fear to consume us, and succumb to worry, we release death into our future.
It's no wonder many Christians struggle in life because death is at work. The death mentioned here refers to the corruption, loss, failure, and sickness that seek to steal, kill, and destroy us.
Therefore, Paul encourages us to be transformed by renewing our minds! Our minds lay the tracks on which our lives will travel. Consider the wisdom in Philippians 4:8: "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things."
TNJPLGR = true, noble, just, pure, lovely, good report
Is this just a suggestion or a key to life and peace? Paul understood that life could not spring from a mind consumed by worry and fear. Life can only flourish in an environment of truth, nobility, justice, purity, loveliness, and good reports. This speaks of a mind that dwells on God's Word and His promises, captures every thought captive, and rejoices always. Furthermore, there are even physical consequences when our minds are filled with God's Word and positive thoughts.
As Proverbs 4:20-22 reveals, when we give attention to God's words, keep them in our hearts, and let them guide our lives, they become life to us and bring health to our bodies.
