Effortless Fruit
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
— John 7:38
Have you ever wondered how you can bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit effortlessly? The Bible assures us that when we believe in Jesus, rivers of living water, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, will flow from within us. But what does this mean for our lives?
God's Word tells us that the fruit of the Spirit includes qualities like love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control. It's incredible to think that these qualities should flow out of us naturally, just like water from an artesian well. They don't have to be forced or manufactured; they result from conforming our thinking to God's Word.
But how is it possible for us to bear such fruit? Jesus Himself declared, "Without me, you can do nothing." This means that the fruit we produce is not by our own efforts, but by the work of the Holy Spirit within us. When we are joined to the Lord, our born-again Spirit is one with Him, and it is our Spirit that produces this fruit.
Here's the amazing part: our Spirit always bears the fruit of love, joy, peace, and more, regardless of how we may feel in our emotions. We may experience moments of sadness or depression in our soul, but our Spirit remains unshaken, filled with the joy and peace that the Holy Spirit brings.
As believers, we have a choice. We can allow our soulish emotions to dominate and bring us down, or we can let the Holy Spirit, through our born-again Spirit, release the joy and peace that are already within us. It's not hypocritical to express joy when we feel down; it's aligning with the truth of who we are in Christ.
Remember, the fruit is not produced by our own efforts, but by the Holy Spirit. Our part is to yield and trust, while God's part is to bring forth the fruit. So let us surrender our emotions and circumstances to the Holy Spirit and allow His fruit to manifest in our lives effortlessly.
