Rising Above The Story Of Job

Have you ever thought about how Jesus would have responded to Job's story? That's the question we're exploring today. Job's story is often misunderstood, used to portray a life of unnecessary suffering. However, as born-again believers, we are not destined to follow Job's path.

You see, in Christ, you are a brand-new creation crafted in righteousness. Are you aware of that? You are fully accepted, seated with Him in heavenly places, and called to do great works. So, how does this differ from Job's story? Let's unpack that with the help of some teachings from Jesus Himself.

Remember the parable Jesus shared about two men, two houses, two foundations, and one storm (Matthew 7:24-27)? Was it God who sent the storm? No, it wasn't. It was God who provided His Word, and one man was a doer of the Word while the other merely heard the Word but did nothing. Don't you see? This story is more relevant to us believers than the book of Job. It's not about suffering like Job; it's about being proactive in our faith.

How about the time when Jesus' disciples panicked in a storm while He slept (Mark 4:35-41)? They accused Him of not caring. Sounds a bit like Job, doesn't it? Yet, how did Jesus respond? He said, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" (Mark 4:40) For Job, having such faith was difficult, if not impossible. He didn't have a relationship with God like we do. This scenario is, unfortunately, true for many believers today. Do you sometimes feel like that?

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27) Now, Job didn't have that promise of peace, did he? But we do.

Our lives, as believers, should be anchored in peace, free from fear and offense against God, and established on doing His Word. That is our response to Job's story. We are not defined by fear and suffering; we are defined by faith and peace in Christ. So, will you embrace this truth today?
