True Purpose Of Faith
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
— 1 Corinthians 13:13.
Hey, have you ever paused to think about the real essence of Christianity? What's it all about? We hear about God's love, redemption, the beauty of the cross, and the promise of eternal life. But what about right now? What should Christianity mean for us in our everyday lives?
Ever heard about that time when Paul told Timothy about those teaching weird things and causing arguments? It's in 1 Timothy 1. Paul's point? "The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith." (1 Tim. 1:5). So, what does this mean for us?
Love from a Pure Heart: Have you ever felt a love so genuine and pure? That's what God's love is like. We can totally spread that love to others. "God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit" (Rom. 5:5). So when you think of love, think of it as this beautiful thing that's patient, kind, and isn't jealous. Love doesn't brag, isn't rude, and isn't selfish. It's not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs, and never enjoys wrongdoing but celebrates the truth. That's from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7!
A Clear Conscience: Want to feel free from guilt? Jesus has our backs! "The blood of Christ will cleanse our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God" (Heb. 9:14). When our conscience is clear, trust me, we bring out all the good stuff from our hearts.
Real-deal Faith: This isn't just believing because everyone says so. It's genuine. Knowing that your faith is grounded in God's love and a clear conscience. Real faith? It acts on what it believes, visualizes the unseen, and claims the promises before they're seen. And guess where faith comes from? "Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ" (Rom. 10:17).
Let's not get distracted by all the noise out there. Our journey with God? It's about walking in love, shaking off the guilt, and being filled with faith. That's it, pretty simple, right?
