Why Head Knowledge Cannot Move Mountains

You can know all the right things about God and still feel like nothing is moving. That gap between what you know and what you actually believe is where most of us live.

In Matthew 17 a father brings his son to the disciples and they cannot help him. These are the same men who had already been sent out with authority. They had the knowledge. Something else was missing.

Matthew 17:20 says, "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Notice what He did not say. He did not tell them to go get more faith. He said a mustard seed is already enough.

Before anyone turns that into a stick, let me be clear. If you are sick, or a prayer has gone unanswered for years, that is not proof your faith is broken. Jesus was correcting men who already carried authority and were not using it, and He healed the boy anyway. He is not standing over you with a scorecard.

Faith is not something you squeeze out of yourself. Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." It grows the way anything alive grows, by being fed. Time in His Word, time in His presence, and the Holy Spirit does the rest of the work inside you.

Head knowledge tells you God can. Heart belief rests in the fact that He already has. You do not have to work your way from one to the other, you just have to keep listening to Him.
