The Words You Say About Yourself Matter

Listen to how you talk about yourself when something goes wrong. I am so stupid. I always mess this up. Nothing ever works out for me. Most of us say it casually and never notice.

Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Words are not neutral noise. They shape what you expect, and what you expect shapes how you live.

Matthew 12:36-37 says, "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." Jesus is not trying to scare you into silence. He is telling you your words carry weight, which means they can carry good weight too.

To be clear, your circumstances are not a punishment for something you muttered in a bad mood. Being ill or short of money is not a curse you accidentally spoke over yourself, and God is not waiting for you to slip. This is stewardship, not superstition.

Psalm 118:17 says, "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD." That is the tone to aim for. If you have been talking yourself down, you can simply start agreeing with God instead, and no ritual is required for it. The Holy Spirit is the One who renews how you think, so ask Him to catch you when the old line comes out.

God already said who you are. Righteous, loved, His. You get to say the same thing back, over your own life and over the people around you.
