Eternal Life Starts The Day You Know Him

Ask most people what eternal life means and they will describe a location. Somewhere you go later, mostly defined by the place you avoided. Jesus defined it as a relationship that has already started.

John 17:3 says, "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." That is His own definition. Eternal life is knowing Him.

Knowing is different from knowing about. You can recite doctrine and still be a stranger. It is the difference between reading somebody's biography and actually having their number.

The barrier is already gone. 2 Corinthians 5:18 says, "And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation." Reconciled. Done. The distance you sometimes feel is not an actual gap that still needs closing.

John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Look at what He wanted badly enough to pay that price for. Not just your safety. Your company.

So this is not a ticket you file away for later. Eternal life is available in your ordinary week, and the Holy Spirit inside you is the one who makes God feel like a Person instead of a subject. Ask Him for that. He is already willing.
