Ruth Just Happened To Land In That Field

Ruth had nothing going for her on paper. Widowed, foreign, poor, and living off whatever was left behind in other people's fields.

What she says next is remarkable given all that. Ruth 2:2 says, "Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace." She walks out expecting to find grace. Nobody had promised her any.

Then Ruth 2:3 says "her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz." Her hap. It reads like an accident, and the whole book is built on the joke that it was not one.

She had no way of knowing whose land she had wandered onto. She was just working. The positioning was happening above her head while she got on with the day.

That is usually how it goes. You take the job, send the message, show up to the thing that feels like nothing, and later you find out it was the field. Favour is not a reward for having your life together. Ruth was at her lowest point. Ask the Holy Spirit to put you where He wants you and then just go, because most of this you will only see afterwards.

A foreign widow gleaning leftovers ended up in the family line of Jesus. That was not luck, and neither is your ordinary week.
