Courage You Do Not Have To Manufacture
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
— Joshua 1:9
Being told to be strong when everything is falling apart is one of the least helpful things anyone can say. It sounds like an instruction to feel something you do not feel.
Joshua 1:9 says, "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." Notice where the sentence actually lands. Not on Joshua's nerve. On God being with him.
God does not command something and then leave you to generate it yourself. The courage was attached to His presence, not to Joshua's personality. That is the whole vibe shift.
Romans 15:13 says, "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost." Through the power of the Holy Ghost. Not through the power of you trying harder on a Monday morning.
So on the morning the result comes out, or the day that family conversation finally happens, or the shift where you already know how your manager is going to start, you are not digging around for bravery you do not have. You thank God that His Spirit is in you and you go and do the thing scared. The feeling usually turns up after the obedience, not before it.
You do not have to feel strong to be strong. God is with you wherever you go today, and that was never conditional on your mood.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You never told me to be brave on my own. You are with me wherever I go, and that does not move with how I feel. Holy Spirit, fill me with Your joy and peace today in the exact place I have been dreading. I am not working up courage, I am receiving Yours. I go into this day by faith. Amen
Amen
