The Labels You Wear Are Not Yours
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
— Romans 8:37
Listen to how you talk about yourself. I am just an anxious person. I am the one who always messes it up. Those sentences start in first person, which is exactly why they slip past you.
A thought showing up in your own voice does not make it yours. Some of them are lies auditioning for the job of your identity, and they only get it if you keep repeating them.
Romans 8:37 says, "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." Read the last part. Through him that loved us. Not through how strong you are on a good week. The title comes from who is holding you, and that is not something your mood can revoke.
In all these things is worth noticing too. Paul does not say the hard things disappear. He says the description of you holds while you are still in them.
So take the labels off out loud. I am a child of God. I am forgiven, righteous and holy in Christ Jesus. That is not you hyping yourself up, it is you agreeing with what God already said. The Holy Spirit is the one who makes it feel true, and He usually does it slowly, over weeks of you refusing the old sentence.
You are not what the thought says. You are what He says, and He has not changed His mind about you once.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You already decided who I am and did not leave it to my worst days. I am Your child, loved, forgiven and righteous in Christ. Holy Spirit, catch me when I start agreeing with a label You never gave me. Let me hear Your voice louder than that one today. I believe what You have said about me. Amen
Amen
