Jesus Forgave You Before You Asked

Jesus is the only person who was ever genuinely innocent. He never sinned, never crossed a line, never had anything to answer for. And He is the one they killed.

He had every right to fight back, and He did not. Luke 23:34 says, "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." That prayer went up while He was still hanging there, before a single person on that hill said sorry.

And it was not only for the soldiers standing in front of Him. It reached forward to everyone who would ever come to Him, which includes you. Your forgiveness was not a reply to your apology. It was already spoken over you before you knew you needed it.

That is why grace hits differently once you actually see it. Ephesians 4:32 says, "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." Notice the direction it runs. Forgiving others flows out of what you already received, it never earns it.

Forgiving someone who genuinely damaged you is heavy, and you are not expected to squeeze it out of yourself. The same mercy that was poured into you is already sitting inside you, and the Holy Spirit is the One who releases it. Ask Him for it instead of gritting your teeth.

Holding on to what someone did keeps you tied to them. Letting it go does not excuse them, it hands them to God and gives you your peace back. Jesus prayed that prayer with you in mind, and there is plenty of it left for the person you are thinking about right now.
