Your Mouth Is Reporting On Your Heart
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
— Matthew 12:34
Listen to yourself for one day. Not the polished version in front of people, the running commentary when it is just you.
Words are not decoration. Genesis 1:3 says, "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." That is how everything started, and you were made in the image of the One who did it.
Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Both are on the menu. Proverbs 12:14 adds, "A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth." Fruit, meaning something grows from it later.
But here is the part that stops this becoming a rule about watching your language. Matthew 12:34 says, "For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." Your mouth is not the problem. It is the readout.
So the fix is not clamping your jaw shut and trying harder to sound positive. Matthew 12:35 says, "A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things." God already put good treasure in you when He put His Spirit there. Keep feeding on what He says about you, and let the Holy Spirit change the source. The mouth follows the heart, not the other way round.
If you do not like what keeps coming out, that is useful information. It is telling you where to go, not what to suppress.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You already put good treasure in me through Jesus. I am not empty inside, I am full of what You put there. Holy Spirit, work on what is in my heart so my mouth catches up. Give me words today that build somebody instead of flattening them. I trust You with the treasure You planted. Amen
Amen
