When God Gets Bigger The Problem Shrinks

Sometimes the size of the reaction does not match the size of the thing. Your chest goes tight over something you would struggle to explain to anyone else.

Isaiah 26:3 says, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." He will keep. That is God doing the keeping, not you holding yourself together until the situation improves.

You can be standing in a loud street and put your earphones in, and the noise is still there but it is no longer the thing you are listening to. Nothing outside changed. What has your attention did.

In practice this is small. Step away from the screen. Take the walk. Sit by a window for ten minutes and talk to God about it in plain words, the way you would tell a friend.

What tends to happen is not that the problem shrinks. It is that God stops being an idea somewhere in the background and becomes the biggest thing in the room again. You are not manufacturing that with effort. The Holy Spirit is already in you and this is the sort of thing He does when you give Him ten quiet minutes.

The noise will still be going when you get up. It just will not be running the place anymore.
