God Said Surely And He Meant It

Some weeks the news alone is enough to unsettle you. Then something lands closer to home and you start wondering how safe any of it really is.

Psalm 91:3 says, "Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence." Sit on that first word. Surely. God is not hedging or leaving Himself a way out.

A fowler is a bird catcher. He works with traps, not open attacks, and the whole craft is in not being noticed. That is a fair picture of how a lot of damage arrives in a life, quietly and by arrangement.

And that is worth being clear about, because people blame God for things He did not do. John 10:10 says, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." Two different jobs. Two different sources.

So you live in a broken world without belonging to it. John 17:16 says, "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world." That does not mean you float above it untouched. It means your safety is not sourced from it. You are not the one who has to spot every trap, and the Holy Spirit inside you is better at it than your anxiety is.

This whole thing has an ending already written. 1 Corinthians 15:26 says, "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." Even that one is on the list.
