Five Loaves Were Never The Problem

You look at what you have and it does not feel like enough. Not enough time, not enough skill, not enough money to matter. A kid in John 6 had the same math problem.

John 6:9 says, "There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?" Even the disciple pointing him out could not resist adding the disclaimer. Five thousand people, one packed lunch.

Notice what Jesus did not do. He did not make bread out of nothing, and He did not turn stones into food, though He easily could have. He took what was already in the room and blessed it.

Days later they ran into another hungry crowd, and the disciples went straight back to counting what they lacked. They had watched the miracle with their own eyes. Under pressure, the reflex was still inventory.

That reflex is in all of us. We add up our resources first and bring God in when we hit the end of them. But you were never the source, so the size of what is in your hand was never the deciding factor.

So bring what you have, even when it looks like a kid's lunch. The Holy Spirit handles the multiplying, and He has never once been limited by the smallness of what He was handed.
