God Is Satisfied Because Jesus Finished It

Underneath a lot of our quiet anxiety sits one question. Is God actually happy with me right now?

There is an old hymn that asks it straight, is He satisfied with me. I sang it as a teenager and walked away from it feeling short every single time. The problem was that I had the question aimed at the wrong person.

It was never about whether God is satisfied with my week. The real question is whether God is satisfied with what Jesus did on the cross. John 19:30 says, "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." Finished. Not mostly covered, with a balance to clear later.

So God does not look at you and start doing sums. Ephesians 1:6 says He "hath made us accepted in the beloved." Accepted in Jesus, not accepted in your consistency. When God looks at you He sees what Jesus did, and He is completely satisfied with it.

That is what you hold on to when someone, or your own head at one in the morning, tells you that you have not done enough for God to love you. You do not answer that with a better week. You answer it with the cross. The Holy Spirit will keep walking you back there if you let Him, and living out of that acceptance is what actually changes how you live.

You are not on trial. The verdict came in a long time ago, and it was good.
