Eternal Life Starts Now Not Later
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
— John 3:16
Most people hear everlasting life and picture a place you go after you die. That turns it into something you wait for. Jesus described it differently.
John 17:3 says, "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Knowing God. Not arriving somewhere. The life He gave you started the moment you received Him, and it is a relationship, not a reservation.
Which raises the obvious question of who exactly you are getting to know. If you picture someone standing over you with a list of everything you got wrong, you will keep your distance. Matthew 11:29 says, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." That is Jesus describing His own heart toward you.
And the record you are afraid of is already closed. Hebrews 8:12 says, "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." God gave His only Son to make that true, which tells you He was never the one keeping score.
Straight up, this changes what you go to God for. Healing, provision, a way out of the mess, all of that is real and He gives it. But if you only show up when something needs fixing, you are treating the Father like customer support. Psalm 54:4 says, "Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul." Try ten minutes today with no request in it, just reading what He says about Himself and letting the Holy Spirit make it land.
God gave His Son so you could know Him, not so you could wait for a better address. He is not far off and He is not annoyed. Go and know Him.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You gave Jesus so I could actually know You and not just know about You. I am not a case You are reviewing, I am Your child. Holy Spirit, make the Father real to me today the way Jesus described Him, gentle and completely for me. Give me one quiet stretch today where I come to Him with nothing to ask. I receive that closeness by faith in what Jesus already opened. Amen
Amen
