Your Personal Independence Day Already Happened
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
— John 8:36
Today the whole country remembers 1947. Chains came off, a flag went up, and a nation started running its own life. There is a freedom Jesus offers that goes deeper than any border.
Plenty of people live in a free country and are still not free. Some are held by a habit nobody else knows about. Others by the full time job of being good enough for a family that keeps score, or a religion that never says you are done.
Jesus said in John 8:36, "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." Notice who does the freeing. He said in Luke 4:18, "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed." That was His job description, and He finished it.
Here is the thing about 1947. Nobody wakes up on 15 August and re-earns independence. It was won once, and every year since is just living inside something already settled. Your freedom in Christ works exactly the same way. Today is not the day you achieve it, it is the day you live in it.
So what does that look like on an ordinary Saturday? When the old habit sends its usual invitation at eleven at night, you are not a slave negotiating with a master, you are a free person saying no to a stranger. When your mind starts replaying every failure, John 8:32 says, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," so say what God said out loud instead of rehearsing the reel. And when you catch yourself trying to be spiritual enough for God to like you, stop right there, because that is the exact chain He already cut.
Let the Holy Spirit remind you today that this is settled. You are free indeed. That is not a goal you are chasing, it is a fact you are standing on. Happy Independence Day.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that the Son already made me free and nothing is pending. I am not fighting for freedom, I am standing in it. Holy Spirit, remind me who I am the moment the old pull shows up today. Let me walk through this day as someone who is free indeed. I receive this by faith. Amen
Amen
