Paul Said The Whole Point Was Love
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
— 1 Corinthians 13:13
Christianity gets loud. Arguments about doctrine in the group chat, opinions about who is doing it right, a hundred takes on what a real believer looks like. It is easy to lose track of what the whole thing was actually for.
Paul was dealing with the same noise. People around Timothy were teaching strange things and starting arguments, and Paul cut through all of it in one line. 1 Timothy 1:5 says, "Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith." That is the target. Everything else is meant to serve it.
Love from a pure heart is not something you generate. Romans 5:5 says "the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." It is already in you. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes what it looks like coming out: "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
A good conscience is not you finally getting your record clean. Hebrews 9:14 says the blood of Christ will "cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God." The guilt you keep dragging into prayer was already dealt with. You are not waiting on forgiveness, you are living out of it.
Here is the thing. Sincere faith is not you working up a feeling either. Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." So when the argument kicks off online about who is really saved, you do not have to win it. When someone at home is being difficult again this week, the love you need was already poured into you by the Spirit, not something you have to squeeze out of yourself.
1 Corinthians 13:13 says, "And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." All three were handed to you already. The walk is just letting them out.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You already poured Your love into me by Your Spirit. My conscience is clean because of the blood of Jesus, not because of how this week went. Holy Spirit, You are the source, so I am not manufacturing anything today. Bring one person to mind who needs that love and let it come out of me naturally. I receive this by faith. Amen
Amen
