God Picked Parents Who Could Only Afford Pigeons
For the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
— 1 Samuel 16:7
Straight up, you have already done the maths on yourself. Not connected enough, not talented enough, not enough money behind you to actually matter. So you quietly assume God is working with someone better positioned.
Look at what Mary and Joseph brought to the temple when they presented Jesus. Leviticus 12:6-8 laid out the offering after childbirth, and a lamb was the standard. If a family could not afford a lamb, two pigeons were allowed instead. Mary and Joseph brought the pigeons. God handed His own Son to a couple who could not afford the normal offering.
This is how He has always operated. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, "For the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." Samuel was standing in front of tall, impressive older brothers. God sent him out to the field for the youngest one, the one watching sheep.
It was never about David's ability to rule. It was about his availability to God. D. L. Moody once heard a preacher say the world had not yet seen what God could do through one person fully surrendered to Him, and Moody answered that with God's backing he would be that person. He had almost no formal education and he shook three continents.
So the question was never whether you are impressive enough. 1 Corinthians 1:27 says, "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty." You were already chosen before you had a single thing to show. When the opportunity goes to someone with better connections, you do not have to spiral about it. When you get asked to lead something you feel underqualified for, the Holy Spirit in you is the qualification, not your CV.
God is not scanning the room for the most impressive person in it. He is looking at hearts, and yours is already open enough for Him to work with.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You chose me before I had anything to offer You. I am not auditioning for Your attention, I already have it because of Jesus. Holy Spirit, You are the one who makes me able, so I am not leaning on my own credentials today. Show me the one thing You are asking me to say yes to. I am available, and I receive that by faith. Amen
