The Filter You Never Chose
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
— Proverbs 23:7
You run everything through a filter you probably never chose. Family, culture, whatever went in early. It decides what you believe is possible before you consciously think about it.
Proverbs 23:7 says, "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." Not as he speaks. As he thinks, down where nobody else sees it.
Paul flagged this to the church at Colosse. Colossians 2:8 says, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Spoil means robbed. A wrong belief system quietly takes what God already gave you.
Jesus said the same about religious tradition. Matthew 15:8-9 says, "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Human rules can cancel God's Word in your life without you noticing.
It is the oldest tactic there is. Genesis 3:1 says, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" He did not attack God's power. He put a question mark on God's goodness.
So you are not fighting for a better attitude, you are swapping a filter. Feed on what God actually said about you and let the Holy Spirit reset the assumptions underneath. Small thinking is not humility, it is just an old lie nobody ever checked.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that Your Word tells me the truth about who I am in Christ. I am not defined by what I was taught before I knew You. Holy Spirit, show me the assumptions that do not match Your Word today. I take Your truth by faith. Amen
