Your Wasted Years Did Not Cancel Anything
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
— Jeremiah 29:11
A lot of people carry a quiet verdict on themselves. Too many bad calls, too many wasted years, that stretch where they walked away from God completely. If that sounds like you, look at who God was actually talking to when He made this promise.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." He said that to Israel while they were sitting in exile, in the consequences of their own choices. Their mess did not cancel His plan. Yours has not cancelled it either.
Look at David. The youngest at home, the one nobody bothered to call in when Samuel showed up. Yet standing in front of Goliath he said in 1 Samuel 17:45, "Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied." His confidence was not in himself.
Peter denied Jesus three times on the worst night of his life. John 21:17 says, "He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me? Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep." No lecture, no probation period. Just love, and then more responsibility.
So on a normal day this is what changes. When you go for the role you think you disqualified yourself from, or say yes to serving when your history says stay quiet, you are not doing that on borrowed confidence. Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Not through trying harder, through Christ, and He is living in you by His Spirit right now.
What God put in you was never based on your track record. It was based on His. That flips the whole script on the years you keep apologising for.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that Your plan for me was never priced on my performance. Jesus finished the work, so my past does not get a vote in who I am. I am Your child and that is settled. Holy Spirit, give me the nerve today to step into what You already prepared. I walk in it by faith. Amen
Amen
