David Did Not Look At Goliath's Size

Everybody has one. The fear you work around, the situation you have stopped mentioning, the thing that makes your stomach drop when it comes to mind.

An entire army stood there for forty days doing the sensible thing, which was nothing. They had done the comparison and the comparison was accurate. Goliath was bigger than all of them.

David ran the numbers differently. 1 Samuel 17:45 says, "Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts." He was not measuring himself against the giant. He never entered himself into that comparison.

That is not bravado. A shepherd boy against a soldier is a bad matchup and David knew it. He had just settled who was actually going to be doing the fighting.

Psalm 18:29 says, "For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall." By thee, and by my God. Twice in one line he says where it came from. So you are not working up courage out of nowhere today. The Holy Spirit is already in you, and courage is what happens when your attention moves off the size of the problem.

Your giant is probably as big as you think it is. It is just not the biggest thing standing in the field.
