Temptation Loses When You Know Who You Are

Temptation showing up is not proof that something is wrong with you. It came for Jesus too. What decides the outcome is what you already know about who you are.

1 Corinthians 10:13 says, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." The exit was arranged before the pull ever started.

Preparation matters. 2 Chronicles 12:14 gives a sad summary of Rehoboam: "And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD." He did not lose in the moment of temptation. He lost in all the quiet days before it.

Notice how the enemy came at Jesus. He went straight at identity, questioning whether Jesus really was the Son of God. He runs the same play on you, because a person who is settled about who they are is very hard to move.

Then there is what you let your mind chew on. Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." This is not white knuckle willpower. The Holy Spirit lives in you and He is the one who shows you the way out, often before you feel the pressure build.

You are not someone barely holding on. You are righteous in Christ and already free, and freedom is a lot easier to keep than it is to earn. Walk in what is already true about you.
