The Disciples Saw Shortage Jesus Saw Seed
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
— John 10:10
A lot of us are just covering the next thing. Rent, results, the appointment on Thursday. Ask what you actually want out of your life and the question feels almost embarrassing.
John 10:10 says, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." More abundantly. That word is doing work in the sentence. Surviving was never the offer.
Watch what happens on the hillside with the crowd. Matthew 14:17 says the disciples told Him, "We have here but five loaves, and two fishes." They were doing the maths and the maths was correct. It was nowhere near enough.
Jesus looked at the same lunch and did not see a shortfall. He saw something to start with. Same bread, two completely different readings of it.
Here is a fair test for where you are. Does thinking about your future make you want to give, build and help someone, or does it mostly make you brace? That is not a character verdict, it is just showing you which way you are looking. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what He sees in what you are holding, because He is the one who does the multiplying, not you.
Everyone on that hillside ate until they were full and there were leftovers. It started as one boy's lunch.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You came to give me life in abundance and not just enough to get by. I am not scraping through, I am provided for. Holy Spirit, change what I see when I look at what is in my hands. Give me one thing to dream about again. I trust You with what You multiply. Amen
Amen
