They Forgot The Loaves By Nightfall

You have watched God come through before and you still cannot see a way out of this one. That is not a character flaw. It happened to men standing right next to Jesus.

They had just watched five thousand people eat from a boy's lunch. Hours later they were out on a boat, saw Jesus walking on the water, and completely lost it.

Mark 6:51-52 says, "And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened." They did not panic because they were bad disciples. They just never connected what they saw that afternoon to what they were facing that night.

We do the same thing. New problem, blank memory. Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." Your understanding is not evil, it is just working with far less information than God has.

And this is not a call to squeeze harder for faith. Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Faith comes. It arrives through hearing, which makes your part exposure rather than effort.

So give the Holy Spirit something to remind you of. Keep God's Word in front of you often enough that remembering becomes the reflex instead of panic. He has never once run out of ways to show up for you.
