Do Not Let That Offense Take Root
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
— Philippians 4:6
Somebody hurt you and you are still carrying it. Maybe it was someone in church, maybe someone in your own family. Getting offended is not rare, it is almost the default setting of being around people.
The problem is what offense does when you keep it. It grows like a weed and quietly chokes out the love and joy that were already in you.
James 3:14-16 does not soften it: "But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there." Naming it honestly is the first move. You cannot hand God something you keep pretending is fine.
Then Philippians 4:6-7 gives you the handover: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." You are not being talked out of the pain. You are being guarded while He heals it.
Forgiveness is not you generating something out of nothing. Ephesians 4:32 says, "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." You already received it, so you are passing on what you are holding. Jesus said it plainly in Matthew 5:44: "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." The Holy Spirit supplies that love, you just stop blocking it.
Letting the offense go is not saying it did not hurt. It is refusing to let the person who hurt you keep renting space in your heart. That freedom was bought for you already, so take it.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You forgave me completely through Jesus, before I ever deserved it. I am not defined by what was done to me. Holy Spirit, lift this offense off my heart and guard it with Your peace. I forgive, and I let it go by faith. Amen
