You Cannot Delete A Thought, Only Replace It

Try this for a second. Picture an apple. Now stop thinking about the apple. The harder you push it away, the more it sits right there in the middle of your head.

That is exactly how it works with the thought you have been trying to get rid of for months. Fighting a thought keeps it in the room. Straight up, you cannot delete a thought. You can only replace it with a better one.

Abraham did this. Hebrews 11:16 says, "But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city." He was not sitting there straining not to think about being old and childless. He was occupied with something better that God had said.

Look at the last line of that verse. He hath prepared. God had already done the work long before Abraham ever thought about it. Faith is not straining to think positive, it is thinking about what God has already said and already finished.

So at 1am when the same conversation is replaying, arguing with it does nothing. Open a specific verse and read it out loud in the dark. Play a message while you cook. Put one promise on your lock screen so it is the first thing your eyes land on. The Holy Spirit uses what you put in front of Him, and He does the reshaping.

You are not trying to empty your mind. You are giving it something better to hold, and God prepared that a long time ago.
