Your Spirit Is New, Your Mind Is Catching Up
..asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God..
— Ephesians 1:17 (NLT)
You got born again and some of the old thinking stayed. That is confusing until you understand what actually changed and what is still catching up.
Jesus said in Mark 7:21, "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders." The heart in Scripture is not only your born again spirit. It covers your whole inner world, mind and emotions included.
Your spirit was made brand new the moment you trusted Jesus. Your soul was not swapped out, it is being renewed. That is where pride and old reactions still surface, and it does not mean your salvation glitched.
Paul prayed about exactly this in Ephesians 1:17: "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him." He is asking that what is already true in your spirit becomes how you actually think.
So this is not you trying to get more faith or get closer to God. Ephesians 1:3 says He "hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ." It is already in you. Renewing your mind is your thinking finally agreeing with what your spirit already holds.
When your spirit and your soul stop arguing, your life starts looking like what is inside you. Let the Holy Spirit do that work today instead of grinding at it yourself.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that my spirit was made completely new in Christ. I am not a project, I am Your child. Holy Spirit, give me wisdom and revelation so my thinking catches up with what is already true. I receive that renewal by faith today. Amen
