The Sabbath Was Always Pointing To Jesus

Rest makes a lot of us uncomfortable. If we are not producing something, we feel like we are falling behind. God built a whole day around the opposite idea long before anybody had a calendar app.

Exodus 23:12 says, "Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed." Even the animals and the workers got it. Your Creator was never trying to run you into the ground.

But the day was pointing at something. Colossians 2:16-17 says, "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ." A shadow means something real is casting it. The real thing is Jesus.

Hebrews 4:9-10 finishes the thought, "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his." Ceased from his own works. That is the whole vibe shift.

So rest is not a square on your calendar, it is a place you live from. You stop trying to earn what Jesus already secured and you start operating out of it. The Holy Spirit is the source of the work now, and He does not run out of energy the way you do.

If you are worn out from trying to be enough for God, you can stop. He never asked you to carry that. The work is finished and you get to live inside it.
