Giving Is Planting, Not Losing
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
— Luke 6:38
Real talk, giving feels like subtraction. You hand something over and there is visibly less of it in front of you. Jesus described it completely differently.
Luke 6:38 says, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." That is not a transaction, it is a harvest. And it works with far more than money. Whatever you release goes into the ground the same way.
Galatians 6:7 says, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Paul says it again in 2 Corinthians 9:6, "He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully." The size of the harvest tracks the size of the seed. That is not God being stingy with you, that is just how seed works.
Here is the thing. This is not you buying something from God. He gave first, and everything you have to sow came from His hand in the first place, so you are not funding a miracle, you are planting what He already supplied. And if you have sown things you regret, 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Forgiveness cancels a bad crop before it ever comes up.
God is your source, and He almost always moves through people. So when you are praying for a job, pray for the manager who is going to say yes to you. When rent is tight and everything in you wants to freeze up, keep giving the small amount anyway. Give your colleague an honest hour of help without keeping score. Send your sister the money and then let it go.
Galatians 6:9 says, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." Due season is not always this week. Let the Holy Spirit keep you steady in the gap between planting and harvest. The seed is already in the ground, and God is not slow.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that everything I have to give came from You first. I am not buying anything from You, I am planting what You already provided. Holy Spirit, keep me generous today without keeping score. Show me the one person You want me to sow into. I trust You for the harvest in due season. Amen
Amen
