Perfect Peace Comes From Where Your Mind Stays
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.
— Isaiah 26:3
Some seasons your head just will not switch off. You lie down and the whole list starts running again.
Isaiah 26:3 says, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Read the condition in it. Nothing there about the circumstances calming down first. It is about where the mind is parked.
Stayed is a strong word. Not glanced at, not visited on Sunday. Leaned on and left there. That is not a technique you have to master, it is a place you keep coming back to.
Which is why what you feed yourself matters. Find the verses that say what God is actually like toward you and put them somewhere you will hit them again. When the anxiety starts talking, you want something already sitting in you that can answer it.
In practice this is small and unglamorous. You catch the spiral starting on the bus, and instead of arguing with it you go back to the one line you know. God is not asking you to manufacture calm by trying harder at it. The Holy Spirit in you is the source of the peace, and He does not run out.
The situation might not shrink today. It just stops being the loudest thing in your head, and that is most of the fight.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that Your peace is not waiting on my circumstances to sort themselves out. I am not carrying this alone, I am held. Holy Spirit, pull my mind back to You every time it runs off. Keep me there today. I trust You with the part I cannot fix. Amen
Amen
