The Treasure Is Already In The Jar
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
— Matthew 26:41
You want to do the right thing and something in you pulls the other way. That tension is not proof you are a fake. Jesus named it out loud.
Matthew 26:41 says, "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Notice which part He called willing. Your spirit is not the problem.
1 John 4:17 says, "because as he is, so are we in this world." Present tense, right now, in this world. The new you is already like Jesus, and that was settled at salvation, not by your track record since.
2 Corinthians 4:7 says, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." The treasure is already in the jar. Nothing needs adding, it just needs accessing.
1 Timothy 4:7-8 says to "exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things." That training is not you earning power. It is you getting familiar with what the Holy Spirit already put inside you, and prayer is where that happens.
So when the tug of war starts, you are not fighting to become somebody new. You already are somebody new. Watch and pray, and let your mind catch up to the part of you that has been willing the whole time.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You put Your own power in me and did not wait until I deserved it. As Jesus is, so am I in this world. Holy Spirit, help me draw on what is already in me instead of striving for it. Meet me in prayer today when the pull gets strong. I live from what You gave. Amen
Amen
