She Loved Much Because She Knew The Amount
Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little." Luke 7:47
—
A woman with a bad reputation walked into a dinner she had not been invited to and started crying on Jesus' feet. The host was appalled, mostly at Jesus for allowing it.
Jesus told him a story about two men who owed money, one a lot and one a little, and both let off. Then He asked which one would love the lender more. Simon gave the obvious answer and walked straight into the point.
Luke 7:47 says, "Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little." Simon was not less forgiven than she was. He just thought he was.
That is why some people are on fire and others are polite about Jesus. It is rarely about personality. It is about whether you have any idea what was actually cleared.
And the debt was not settled in instalments. Past, present, the things you have not done yet. So if your love for Him feels thin, the answer is not to squeeze harder at it. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the size of what He forgave, because love comes out of seeing that, not out of effort.
Matthew 22:37 says to love God with all your heart and soul and mind. Nobody has ever done that by being told to. She did it in a room full of people who despised her, because she knew exactly what she had been let off.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that You cancelled the whole debt and not part of it. I am not a little forgiven, I am completely forgiven. Holy Spirit, show me the size of what He cleared so my love is not small. Let that change how I come to Him today. I receive it as finished. Amen
Amen
