You Are Not Living In Job's Story
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
— John 14:27
People love to pull out Job the moment life gets rough. As if suffering is just the standard package for every believer. Here is the thing, you are not living in Job's covenant.
Job lived before the cross. Before the resurrection. Before the Holy Spirit came to live inside people. He did not have the finished work of Jesus or the full picture of who God actually is, so measuring your life by his is like judging daylight by a candle.
In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus told about two builders. The same storm hit both houses. One stood and one came down, and the difference was never the storm, it was the foundation. "Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock." That is the story you are actually in.
In Mark 4:40, when the disciples were panicking in the boat, Jesus did not congratulate them for enduring it. He said, "Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?" Faith is not gritting your teeth through the storm. It is responding to what God said while the storm is still going.
John 14:27 says, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Job never had that as a covenant reality. You do, and the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is living in you right now. That is not a better attitude, it is a completely different starting point.
So stand on what you actually have instead of on a pre-cross story. The covenant you are under is better, and the One who signed it is not going to fail you.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for a better covenant than Job ever had. I am not enduring my way through life, I am standing on what Jesus already finished. Holy Spirit, You live in me, so make Your peace real to me in the situation I keep bracing for. I am not bracing anymore, I am resting. That is settled by faith. Amen
Amen
