Fast Growth Is Not The Same As Strong
Jesus talks about a similar situation, "And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness.
— Mark 4:16
Some people catch fire fast and burn out just as fast. Jesus talked about that, and He was not sneering at them when He did.
Mark 4:16-17 says, "And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended."
Notice the problem was never the joy. The joy was real. What was missing was depth, and depth is the one thing speed cannot fake.
Read that carefully before you turn it on yourself. A hard season is not proof that your roots are shallow. Plenty of deeply rooted people go through brutal years, and the affliction is not God testing your soil.
Joshua 1:8 says, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." Meditating is not grinding. It is turning something over slowly until it soaks in.
You are not building roots by willpower. The Word is the seed and the Holy Spirit does the growing, and He is in no hurry with you. Give Him something to work with and let the depth happen quietly.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that Your Word does the growing in me and I am not the one making it happen. I am rooted in Christ even on the weeks I feel shallow. Holy Spirit, keep me steady when things get hard instead of offended. Give me one verse to sit with today. I trust Your quiet work in me. Amen
Amen
