You Are Looking Right Past His Goodness
The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
— Psalm 33:5
Ask most people whether God is good and they will say yes, then list everything that argues against it. The world is loud with bad news. That does not change what is actually here.
Psalm 33:5 says, "He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD." Full. Not partly stocked, not scheduled for later. Full right now.
You already know how this works. The day you decide you want a particular bike, you start spotting that bike everywhere. They were always on the road. Your attention changed, not the traffic.
Jesus explained what blocks the view. Mark 4:19 says, "And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful." Worry does more than feel bad. It crowds out what God has already said.
If you are in real pain right now, none of this is a hint that you should have felt better by now. Grief is not blindness, and hurting is not a faith failure. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you one thing today and let it be small, because He is the One who opens eyes.
His goodness is not a mood you have to manufacture. It is the ground you are already standing on, and once you start noticing it, you notice it everywhere.
PRAYER
Father, thank You that the earth is full of Your goodness and I am living in it. I am Your child and Your kindness toward me does not move with my circumstances. Holy Spirit, open my eyes to one clear sign of Your goodness today. Lift the worry that keeps crowding it out. I look for You in faith. Amen
Amen
